5.0 out of 5 stars Race Along Chuck the Talking Tonka Truck, September 18, 2011

What's not to love? My three year old niece laughed uncontrollably at Chuck's lights and voice and quick movements. It is definitely too heavy for her to lift, so she chased it around like a puppy.

The games are brief, perfect for a young child's short-attention span, and the noise and lights arrive in mercifully short spurts, so before the action becomes too annoying, it stops by itself. Yes, a mere touch starts it up again, but it doesn't produce a continuous non-stop wall of noise. Adults can hold on to their sanity.

Outside she rolled it around in the dirt and grabbed the exhaust pipes and yanked hard. No damage. The toy is cute and sturdy. It requires 4 C batteries.

I gave Race Along Chuck to our four year-old for his birthday, and he got a tremendous kick out of it. He enjoyed the moving face which is amusingly done and not scary (this can not be said for all such toys). He also liked the various games and unexpected behaviors that the toy performs.

From a parent's perspective, this is a solid toy that won't break easily and has no sharp edges or corners. Though it is what we call a "noise-toy", it is not loud and thankfully comes with an off switch (again, not all such toys include this very necessary function). Race Along Chuck has no educational value, but it's meant to be a fun toy and as such, it succeeds very well. Even our older kids got a few laughs out of it.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
As a pediatric physical therapist, I am not a big fan of every toy ever becoming electronic. I believe it just enables short attention spans, and certainly it removes a lot of opportunity for imaginative play. But I am often the one asking my little patients to do something that is difficult or uncomfortable for them, so I thought I'd give Chuck a try as an inducement for my kiddos to move.

As one would imagine, he's loud and hyper - flashing lights, sudden movements, obnoxious voice. That was not a surprise. But what I did find surprising was that you cannot choose what 'game' you want to play with Chuck... he just continuously cycles through the games. He also makes sudden unexpected movements that were frightening to some of my clients. Nobody I tried Chuck with loved him; about half the kiddos liked him enough to play for a few short minutes. I went back to non-electronic play to engage my guys for a longer time.

BOTTOM LINE: Loud, sudden movements,... Read more
